Avascular necrosis (AVN) of the hip (also known as osteonecrosis, aseptic necrosis, or ischemic bone necrosis) is a cellular death of bone tissue due to an interruption of the blood supply. It’s a progressive, awful disease that often leads to breaks, collapse of the bone, and destruction of joint surfaces.
Doctors have tried numerous ways to halt the progression of AVN, including osteotomy, core decompression, and medical treatments. But results have been poor, with as many as 40% of patients progressing to total hip arthroplasty, or replacement of the hip. But total hip replacements are risky, and the success rates are fairly low.
But there is a way to reverse the effects of AVN that doesn’t require surgery: amniotic stem cell therapy. It’s a pain-free way to regrow bone and heal your injured joint.
Amniotic stem cell therapy has been shown to be effective in healing bones (cytokines, amino acids, carbohydrates, hyaluronic acid, extracellular matrix proteins, and other cellular components) as well as recruiting your body’s own stem cells to the injured site to promote tissue regeneration.
Patients who have received stem cell therapy in the early stages of AVN have shown positive results and have regrown bone, reversed the course of AVN, and alleviated pain.
To achieve these results we use an exact, image-guided injection of a liquid allograft comprised of amnion and amniotic fluid components to feed and grow stem cells at the affected area. As a result, amnion-derived allografts make an attractive wound biomaterial that promotes a rapid, natural healing of your bone from the inside out.
This is a non-invasive, non-surgical solution to joint replacement that is far less painful than replacement and can provide noticeable results within only a few weeks and complete the repair of the joint within two to three months.
Should surgery be necessary—in the case of advanced AVN—adding platelet-rich plasma and stem cells to the joint after surgery has been shown to speed up recovery and reduce pain better than in patients who did not receive biological therapy.
